The movie is indeed awful, desperately awful, except to the degree that the film itself seems to accept this reality somewhere along the way and to begin reluctantly poking fun at itself. Therein alone lies any redemption. It saddens me to see Rod Steiger, at death’s door, reciting lines in such a laughable loser, presumably because he is broke.
